Talking with strangers.

I have spent a lot of my time travelling these past few weeks. Since the first of January I travelled to Cambodia via Singapore, back to Australia via Vietnam, then over to Orlando, Florida, which is where I am now. I have spent many hours sitting on a plane, followed by many hours talking with people and being social as I’ve answered questions about my work and the projects my organisation invests in. It has been great and I have met some amazing people along the way. It has also been exhausting and there have been days where I have … Continue reading Talking with strangers.

River wild.

It’s 5:20 am on Saturday morning in Cambodia and I am wide awake. I have been awake since around 4am when some nice little ant-like critters decided to take up residence in my bed and just bite me over and over again, so I abandoned any ideas of more sleep and got up. After a nice cold shower (because apparently hot showers aren’t a thing in some parts of Cambodia) I now find myself sitting in my room with some time on my hands. So I have my worship music playing softly in the background while I gather my thoughts … Continue reading River wild.

A sense of responsibility.

Oh, Cambodia, how I have missed you. I am back in Cambodia for the second time in three months and I am as happy as a pig in mud. There is something about this place that I just love; the sights and sounds and smells (as bad as they are) hit you as soon as you come step off the plane and just stay with you. And the people. My word, the people here are just amazing, even the ones that are trying to rip you off at the markets and charge you $15 USD for a headband that is … Continue reading A sense of responsibility.

The little girl who left me broken-hearted

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved children. If I’m out and about and see a fat little baby, all I want to do is pick them up and snuggle. One of my favourite things to do is sit at my brother’s house and snuggle with my little baby nephew, Frankie, while watching Sophie and Aidan, his brother and sister, play. I love kids and pray that one day God would bless me with kids of my own, both biological and adopted. So when it comes to injustices in the world, what hurts me most and … Continue reading The little girl who left me broken-hearted

If you have ever been on a plane, you know how small things look from up in the air. Everything takes on a different size; the buildings that seemed impossibly high from the ground become minuscule little dots on the ground. Our perspective shifts because everything looks different from up high and it is a good reminder of how big this world is and how small we actually are. Having just spent 9 days in Cambodia, I have once again had my perspective shifted. I have had certain views and ideas challenged and I find myself coming back home with … Continue reading Perspective.

New Orleans – Reflections by the window

It’s 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon and I am sitting in a funky little café in New Orleans, drinking coffee and people watching. I had somehow managed to get myself lost while walking to my destination and saw this little café on the corner and decided to give it a shot. As soon as I walked in, gentle jazz music was playing as other patrons sat around on their laptops working away; my kind of place! I ordered my coffee (which just so happened to be amazing! CC’s Coffee House in New Orleans for the win!), took a corner couch … Continue reading New Orleans – Reflections by the window

LA Story – Into the yonder.

Los Angeles. The place where people come to be famous. The home of Hollywood and Disneyland. This is where the pretty people come to be someone; to become somebody and have their name in lights. And this just happens to be where I am today. Not to have a shot at being famous (goodness knows I have no acting or singing talent whatsoever!) but to catch up with friends for a few days before the next leg of my trip.. And so here I am, sitting in Brew Berry Café, sipping on my coffee while I try to keep myself … Continue reading LA Story – Into the yonder.
